On Saturday, we were lucky enough to see a screening of "Houdini", starring Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, at the beautiful Million Dollar Theater downtown. The screening was part of the Jules Verne Festival and before the movie started, we got to see a live performance of Houdini's water torture trick (by escape artisit Curtis Lovell II) and - a Q&A with Tony Curtis...

Curtis Lovell II
Tony Curtis, Tony Curtis & Me
The theater itself was really amazing... it's the oldest theater in Los Angeles, and one of the Broadway theaters renovated by The Los Angeles Historic Theater Foundation, the only non-profit organization in the area dedicated to theater preservation and revitalization...

And what does the Jules Verne (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days) Festival have to do with all of this you ask? I wondered the same thing at first, but it turns out that Tony Curtis was awarded the Jules Verne Legendaire Award, which is "dedicated to exploration, conservation and education through imagination."
I also wanted to share these amazing Jules Verne covers I found on wikipedia while I was adding the link...
beautiful...
